The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center has reassembled its all-star team of Alzheimer’s disease experts for the fifth annual Family Caregiver Workshop: Spring Training for a Winning Season.
The workshop will be held Friday, April 5 at the Kane Center in Stuart. The program includes an array of informative, interactive lectures and activities that offer real-world solutions to some of the many challenges of caring for a loved one with a memory loss disorder.
“If you are a caregiver, attending this unique caregiver workshop is a must,” said Donna True, LCSW, Program and Outreach Coordinator for the Council on Aging at the Kane Center. “I have been told many times by caregivers that they want to learn how to handle the day-to-day, nitty-gritty details of caregiving. Our goal with this program is to make caregivers’ daily life just a little bit easier.”
Program topics include how to handle difficult behavior; teaching caregivers how to protect their back and how to safely help someone up after a fall; learning how to let go; the process for getting a proper diagnosis; tips on how to speak up at the doctor’s office; an overview of cognitive rehabilitation; and more. The day is infused with opportunities to ask questions and gain helpful advice not only from professionals, but also from the “real” experts—fellow caregivers.
Registration begins at 10:45 a.m. The program runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Attendance is free and includes complimentary lunch and refreshments. Reservations must be made in advance by March 29 by calling 772-223-7800. Respite care will also be offered at no cost, but must be pre-arranged by calling 772-223-7843. The Kane Center is located at 900 SE Salerno Road in Stuart.
The audience for this event is family caregivers. This is not a training event for professional caregivers.
The Family Caregiver Workshop is presented in partnership with Allegro Inspired Senior Living, Elite Home Health Services, Healthcare Solutions, LifeCare Therapy Services, MorseLife Health System, Palm Beach Neuroscience Institute and Senior Helpers.
