DAY MEDICAL CENTER’S KATIE DIAMOND EARNS ADVANCED DIABETES MANAGEMENT BOARD CERTIFICATION
Katie Diamond, one of the expert advanced registered nurse practitioners at the Joseph C. & Ann S. Day Medical Center, has added a new certification to her list of credentials: Board Certified Advanced Diabetes Management (BC-ADM).
By earning her Advanced Diabetes Management certification, Katie is trained to manage the complex needs of patients with diabetes and help them make the best therapeutic and lifestyle choices.
“My goal, personally, is to become as knowledgeable as possible on a very complicated disease,” said Katie. “I treat a patient as a ‘whole,’ not just a diabetic.”
The diabetic management program guides and encourages patients to reach optimal health and diabetes control to prevent diabetes-related complications. A patient’s care plan would include dietary recommendations, exercise plans, medication management, and possible psychosocial issues that could exacerbate the patient’s condition.
“I spend time helping my patients address reasons why they may have become diabetic and educate them on the most effect ways to manage their disease,” Katie added. “As I develop the diabetes management program at the Day Medical Center, I hope to include new services, like group diabetes therapy.”
Katie joined the Day Medical Center in March of 2015. Previous to earning her BC-ADM, Katie earned credentials as an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP), a board certified advanced nurse practitioner (ANP-BC), and a certified diabetes educator (CDE).
Katie is a member of the Day Medical Center’s team of five primary care providers led by board certified internist Dr. R. Emmet Kenney.
