Charles W. Kane

Charles (Charlie) Kane, the namesake of the Charles and Rae Kane Center, is the inspiration behind the Sage Awards.

While ineligible to receive an award due to being a former board member of the Council on Aging, Mr. Kane is a great example of a Sage who has made a difference and served as the Honorary Chair of the inaugural Sage Awards in 2016.

After retiring from a 25-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency, Mr. Kane moved to Martin County and dedicated his next 35 years to advocating for senior services on local, state and national levels.  Mr. Kane served as chair of the Advisory Council for the State’s Department of Elder Affairs, represented our Congressional District at a White House Conference on Aging, and continually worked for the creation of a senior center in Martin County.  The result of that 35-year effort is the publicly and privately funded, full-service senior center on Salerno Road in Stuart…a center that has served over 6,000 seniors in the past year alone.
