The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center welcomed Phyllis Waters Brown as its new Director of Adult Day Health Services.

A native of Martin County, Waters Brown is a Registered Nurse, a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse, and a licensed Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic with more than 40 years of service as a health care professional, beginning as a Lab Technician at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in the late 1970’s.

“I attribute my dedication, vocation and outspoken advocacy for senior citizens to my late grandmother, Ozelle Alridge. She volunteered tirelessly for the Council on Aging, which directly shaped my decision to join the team at the Kane Center,” said Waters Brown.

Waters Brown has served in numerous nursing and healthcare capacities throughout her career, while residing in the U.S. and Europe. Prior to joining the Kane Center, Waters Brown provided direct medical and emergency nursing services for residents of a youth care facility in Orlando. She also spent many years as a Charge and Surgical Nurse in several hospital facilities in South Florida. In 2018, she was a recipient of the DAISY Nurse Leader Award.

In her new role at the Kane Center, Waters Brown will head up the Adult Day Club and the Memory Enhancement Center. The Club welcomes seniors who need a safe, welcoming, engaging place to spend the day. While at The Club, members enjoy a variety of therapeutic and social activities that meet their individual needs, including exercise programs, brain fitness, social groups, music and art therapy, community outings, and on-site nursing care. The Memory Enhancement Center is a structured, research-based program designed for individuals with mild cognitive impairment or suspected memory loss. The curriculum is a proactive approach to early memory loss with exercises that promote optimal brain function, improve health and wellness, and reduce overall stress.
