The Council on Aging of Martin County at the Kane Center is proud to announce the honorees for the sixth annual Sage Awards, a singular event on the Treasure Coast that honors the wisdom and worth of seniors.

Nominated by members of the community, these outstanding individuals will be recognized for the remarkable contributions they have continued to make well into their senior years.

Mallo Bisset will be honored in the Arts and Culture category.
Dr. and Mrs. Mehdi Razavi will be honored in the Health Science & Medicine category.
Maura Farrell Miller, PhD will be honored in the Military & Veterans Support category.
Thelma Washington will be honored in the Education category.
Helen McBride will be honored in the Community Service category.

This year’s Charlie Kane Award honoree is Joseph A. Catrambone, longtime President and CEO of the Stuart/Martin County Chamber of Commerce. Reverend Jerry Gore, Pastor of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ of Stuart, will be honored with this year’s Chairman’s Award.

The awards ceremony and dinner will be held Thursday, March 31, 2022 beginning at 5 p.m. at Harbour Ridge Yacht & Country Club in Palm City. Dinner tickets are $125 and can be purchased online at www.kanecenter.org or by calling the Kane Center at 772-223-7803.

This year’s honorary chairperson is John Loewenberg. The event will be led by guest emcee Robert Lord, Jr.

“The Sage Awards is one of the events I most look forward to,” said Karen Ripper, President and CEO of the Council on Aging. “The Council’s vision is a community that uplifts seniors to maintain lives of quality and purpose. What better way can we put this vision to action than to honor the seniors who go above and beyond every day in service of our community?”

In addition to the Sage Awards, keynote speaker Dr. Christian J. Camargo from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine will provide an Update on Alzheimer’s Research and “The Khatib Project.” Dr. Camargo’s remarks will feature a study conducted in partnership with Council on Aging’s Joseph C. and Ann S. Day Medical Center and funded by the generosity of Dr. Reza Khatib. Dr. Khatib was honored with the Health Science & Medicine award in 2017.

All proceeds from the Sage Awards support the charitable work of the Council on Aging of Martin County, including Meals on Wheels, adult day health care, comprehensive case management, caregiver counseling and support, and more.

The Sage Awards is made possible by support from Presenting Sponsors Dr. Reza and Georgianna Khatib, as well as Bob and Carol Weissman, The Community Foundation Martin | St. Lucie, Nearing & Dallas Wealth Management/RBC Wealth Management, HBK CPAs & Consultants, Sailfish Wealth Management Group/Michael Dadko, Cleveland Clinic Martin Health, Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital, N.
