In addition to positioning Martin County at the forefront of elder care, the Charles and Rae Kane Center is a leader in applying green building technology within the footprint of a senior facility.
Designed for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification in accordance with U.S. Green Building Council guidelines, the Kane Center is the first "green” senior center in Florida that will also serve as an emergency shelter.
The building features renewable resources and materials throughout, and uses a variety of products and finishes derived from recycled materials. Recycling programs have been proactively implemented from construction through building use. The Kane Center also uses electricity and water efficiently, thus reducing energy and maintenance costs over the life of the facility.
