Monthly Groceries

In February 2009, the Council on Aging of Martin County began a pilot program to help seniors in need during the economic downturn. Thanks to underwriting from a private family foundation, we now offer a monthly box of groceries to 100 seniors who cannot afford to purchase enough to eat.

This monthly box of groceries can feed a single person for one month, or a family of four for one week. See below for an example of food items included in a standard order.

Food Items

Each month's order consists of frozen, fresh and staple food items such as those listed below:

How to Order

Due to overwhelming demand, groceries are provided on a first-come, first-served basis to seniors in genuine need.  Groceries are limited to one box per household.

If you can shop and cook but lack the funds to purchase enough to eat, call the Council on Aging at 772-223-7845 on the first of each month.  Leave your name and phone number on the voice recording.  Also let us know if you are unable to pick up the groceries yourself, as we can make a limited number of deliveries.

You will be contacted by staff to either:
  1. Receive a coupon for grocery pick-up, or
  2. Be assigned to a waiting list should there be any cancellations.

Groceries can be picked up at Abundant Life Ministries on the last Saturday of the month; they are located on the corner of Kanner Highway and Salerno Road in Stuart, across from the Publix shopping center.  Only seniors with a coupon for grocery pick-up will receive food.
